Exploring Sustainability at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works!
Dr. Anna Oi Wah Leung from the Department of Biology recently led a group of MSc Environmental and Public Health Management students on an eye-opening visit to the Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works (SCISTW) on March 26, 2024.
As part of the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme (HATS) to enhance Victoria Harbour's water quality, the SCISTW is crucial. During our visit, we received a detailed overview from Ms. Tracy NG Chui-ling, followed by a tour led by Mr. LAM Pak Tat. We were amazed by the eco-friendly and energy-saving features of the facility, including green roofs, photovoltaic panels, and a hydroturbine system for electricity generation.
