Supported by the UGC, this collaborative project brings together experts from HKBU, HKUST, CUHK, and the University of Nottingham Malaysia. The initiative aims to advance marine science education through immersive technology, allowing students to explore marine biodiversity and ecosystem dynamics using innovative VR and XR tools. The benefits extend not only to university students but also to secondary schools.
On 12 May 2026, Dr. Veronica Chan, together with Ms. Jess Lau and Ms. Serena Mak (two MSc in EPHM students), visited Ho Ngai College (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen) to deliver a workshop titled ‘Conserving Marine Biodiversity: Insights from Deep-sea Excursions’. During the workshop, students not only gain knowledge in marine biology but also experienced XR technology, which provides an immersive learning environment that transports them into realistic underwater scenarios, experiences that would be impossible or impractical to have in real life.
If your school would like to arrange this workshop for your primary or secondary school students, please contact Dr. Veronica Chan at veronica_chan@hkbu.edu.hk for more information.
